The Psychotherapist

Title:  Psychotherapist
Studio:  Hard Candy (Pulse Distribution)
Director:  Nica Noelle
Writer:  NIca Noelle
Performers:  Vanilla Deville, Chastity Lynn, Sophie Dee, Dyanna Lauren, Evan Stone, Michael Vegas, Rocco Reed, Seth Gamble.

Synopsis:  Therapist Vanilla DeVille gets turned on listening to stories of the sexual exploits of her patients.  She actually crushes on one of them, although she doesn’t have sex with him.

That, in two sentences, is the movie.  Obviously there’s more to it than that, but, in a nutshell it’s a pretty simple format.  Psychotherapy is a theme Nica Noelle, story driven porn’s most prolific and talented writer/director, has explored more often than anyone else.  It’s obvious that she’s had some herself or has worked in the field at some point because she has the lingo down pat.  Unlike A Father’s Lust this movie is not an exploration of deep issues of human character or relationships.  The set-ups are fairly simple and are designed exclusively to get two people into a sexual situation.  This is about as close to “gonzo” as Nica gets.  So it’s a romp, rather than a serious story, and that’s just fine with me.  The sex is pure Nica with plenty of chemistry and passion, but with a few caveats in this case.

This movie has a lot going for it.  Chastity Lynn and Dyanna Lauren make it worth a rental all by themselves.  Rocco Reed and Seth Gamble are dependable and good looking and you know they’re always going to give good value for money.  Michael Vegas has an unsightly injury to the lower left side of his torso which is a distraction, but Vanilla DeVille more than makes up for that.  And then there’s Evan Stone.

I have never appreciated Evan Stone and I have no idea why.  I’ve never met the man.  He seems to be a pleasant fellow with a reliable erection.  He’s probably nice to dogs and cats.  Nica uses him a lot – that in itself is a good recommendation.  But there’s something about him that sets my teeth on edge.  Perhaps it’s the Prince Valiant hair cut, or the gap in his teeth, or the fact that he seems to have no neck.  I don’t know what it is, but his presence in a video is a real turn-off for me.  I feel like I owe him an apology for not liking him.  Well, if I ever meet him I’ll buy him a beer and let him punch me in the face.  Maybe that will make us even.  When I see Evan Stone I really miss Randy Spears.

The two sex scenes that stand out for me here are the middle two.  I think Rocco Reed is a terrific male porn actor (and I know that there are those who don't like him).  His scene with Nica in Cougar Club 3 is one of my all time favorite Nica Noelle scenes.  And, he’s paired with the always delectable Chastity Lynn.  Every time I see her on the screen I just want to gobble her up.  She’s an awesome combination of youthful innocence and gutter nastiness.  And boy can she fuck.  This scene bears repeated viewing.

The other scene worthy of note is the Seth Gamble/Dyanna Lauren pairing.  Dyanna Lauren is one of those porn ladies who just keep getting better looking with age.  Some women who’ve been in porn for a long time start to look used up.  Not Dyanna.  She’s in a class with Julia Ann, Nina Hartley, and a few other women who’ve managed long porn careers while keeping their looks fresh.  Dyanna is simply beautiful.  But if that’s all she was this scene wouldn’t work.  She’s beautiful AND sexy.  And she can still bring it, as Seth Gamble, another Nica Noelle go-to guy, finds out.  This is an outstanding scene.

While I’m on the subject of Dyanna Lauren, a request – Nica, PLEASE do a scene featuring YOU with Dyanna.  In fact, I’d like to see a video devoted to YOU with the following women:  1 – Dyanna Lauren, 2 – Magdalene St Michaels, 3 – Nina Hartley, and 4 – Sinn Sage.  Please make this happen.  Perhaps Dana Vespoli could direct, leaving you free to just perform. I even have a title for you:  “Nica Loves Women.”  Feel free to use it at no charge.

Vanilla DeVille, who does an excellent job portraying the therapist, is in the scene with the obviously injured Michael Vegas, whom I was seeing for the first time.  When she gets home after hearing about her patients’ sex lives all day and fantasizing about Seth Gamble, she’s as horny as a cat in heat.  There’s plenty of passion in this scene and DeVille is a treat for the eyes (understatement of the year).  Vegas’ wound was a little distracting, but in a perverse way it added to the verisimilitude of the scene.  My guess is that this was a last minute thing (the injury) and there was no time to find a replacement.  It’s a good scene in spite of the distraction caused by Vegas’ injured side and arm.

The opening scene featuring Sophie Dee and Evan Stone was my least favorite of the four (see comments above).  Sophie Dee looks scrumptious and she certainly has the body for porn with large natural breasts and a pretty face.  She has the misfortune of being paired with Evan Stone here, alas.  I’d like to see her with someone else some time to see how she does.  And I’d like to see her on a bed, or at least somewhere more comfortable than that sofa.  I know that people have sex on sofas, in cars, on trains, in the lavatories of airplanes, in broom closets, bathrooms, and in department store dressing rooms.  Yes, I know that.  Those episodes in real life generally last seconds rather than minutes, however, and, in my view, are not suitable for porn.  Remember, this is just my opinion.  Opinions are like navels – everybody has one.  Yours may differ from mine.  Caveat emptor.  One man’s ceiling is another man’s floor.  We all march to a different drummer.  Yada, yada, yada.

I’ve read other reviews of this video and they praised the Evan Stone/Sophie Dee pairing quite highly, so you might want to take my words with a grain of salt.

The story, such as it was, worked.  DeVille did a good job of playing the therapist and the actors played patients and appeared to have some fun doing it.  I’m sure the production was a blast.  Everyone looked like they were having a good time.

The camera work was first rate and editing didn’t produce any distractions.  Sound was OK, but during the therapy sequences the room’s acoustics got in the way a bit, and the initial voice over by DeVille should have been done in a studio rather than on set.  But I'm nit picky about audio because I make my living working in that realm (audio, not porn), and it's been my experience that audio is always the last thing that video folks worry about, being more interested in pictures..

Since I’m reviewing this video you know that I liked it because I don’t write reviews of movies I don’t like.  I probably would have liked it more if I hadn’t just watched A Father’s Lust which I liked a lot more.  The formula of putting people who like each other together in sexual situations has worked well for Nica Noelle and continues to do so.  I have no problem recommending this video for rental by anyone who likes their porn with a little story to go with it and for Nica Noelle fans it will be worth adding to your collection.  Not her best work, but Prince Fielder doesn’t hit home runs every trip to the plate either and Stephen King doesn't write The Stand every time out.  Nica Noelle is still at the front of the story-driven-porn-pack – and that’s not even up for debate.

This is wank material.  Stay horny my friends.

  1. I think that's a great idea about a Dyanna Lauren, Magdalene St Michaels, Nina Hartley, and Sinn Sage movie. Maybe call it "The Super Bowl of Women" and released in late January or early February
